In 1989, whilst doing some jobs for a friend, he suggested that I should consider going Self Employed. After some consideration I did this, and have not looked back since. I had two building companies in England, one a Ltd Company the other a sole trader. Both companies were successful and we were never short of work.

During the years that I worked in England, I undertook many different types of projects, more recently barn renovations for a number of clients. In the last 3 years of working in England some of the major work I completed were 4 barn renovations, one into a day nursery, another into offices, and two into seperate dwellings. The day nursery and offices along with a number of other projects were completed for Leverhulme Estates, Thornton Hough, Wirral. The other two for private individuals, who on seeing that I could work with sandstone and other materials, employed me to renovate theirs.

When my partner, Jane, suggested that we moved to Spain and I must admit I was not completely confident on leaving my safe and secure businesses in England. However, we took the gamble and now have no regrets. We had owned land here in Velez Rubio for a number of years prior so of course this was the ideal place to settle.

Over the past 4 years, there have been many changes in the Rubio region and the influx of English and other foreign persons has increased rapidly, with most people advertising that they are in some type of building trade. One of the reasons for this website is to try to show people that there is no need to be wary of all English builders. Some of us, especially myself, have been builders all our lives, it is all that we know. My Company here now employs four legal persons on a full/time basis and when needs must I employ staff on a legal monthly contract until the extra work is completed.
